It is quite simply a paradise, considering that it is a place of approximately 450 hectares where harmony and tranquility reign, surrounded by nature, safety and a very pleasant environment.
In Vale de Lobo in the Algarve, you can find a philosophy of life that favours quality and exclusivity. Vale do Lobo Transformation
Vale do Lobo in the Algarve was first and foremost a fishing and farming village. It was taken over by the Dutch entrepreneur Sander Van Gelder in 1997, who transformed the place into a multitude of villas and apartments, but today has much more to offer. Two magnificent golf courses, the tennis academy, two kilometres of beaches, many restaurants and, so that you don’t have to leave this Algarve seaside resort, supermarkets. In 2006, Van Gelder sold Vale do Lobo to a group of Portuguese and international investors, earning it the label “Europe’s Finest”.
There are many large, opulent luxury villas hidden behind well-kept shrubs, inhabited only for a few weeks during the year and therefore available for rent for those who come to visit Portugal. Some of the most sumptuous villas are indeed owned by the rich and famous who come and go but many of the apartments are occupied 12 months of the year, mainly by expatriates.
There has been a lot of development in and around Vale do Lobo over the last 23 years. Some of the beach restaurants and bars that used to be accessed by steep, undeveloped paths now have paved roads and gravel tracks. The restaurants themselves have been razed and rebuilt to accommodate the ever-increasing influx of tourists. Some of the restaurants are still run by the Portuguese families who created them.
When the euro came into force in 2002, local developers started to build a lot. Villas began to erupt among the pine trees in the vicinity of Vale do Lobo. There is always something new being built, renewed or rebuilt, if you go back year after year.
With the possible exception of August, Vale do Lobo never feels overcrowded. In May, for example, you don’t need to make a reservation to go out for a meal and go to the tennis academy swimming pool.
