How to get to Portimão

Portimão is a large city in the Algarve region of Portugal, so you will have no problem getting there, either from Lisbon or from Faro.

To go directly to Portimão from Faro, where the airport is located, you can take the train using the company CP – Comboios de Portugal. The distance is 66 kilometers and the trip will take 1 hour and 26 minutes. This is the cheapest way to travel, as the train ticket between Faro and Portimão costs 4€.
The most convenient way to get to Portimão from Faro is to book the services of a private carrier. They will pick you up at the airport and take you directly to your destination for a reasonable price. When you travel on the Portimão – Lisbon line by bus, you should know that the distance is about 183 km. You can take this bus at the Rodoviaria Sete Rios Station. To make your trip easy and comfortable, I recommend you to book cheap bus tickets as soon as possible. The average travel time from Portimão to Lisbon by bus is 3 hours and 15 minutes, but your trip may take longer on weekends and holidays.
There is no train that goes directly to Portimão from Lisbon, so you will have to take a train to Faro and then another one to Portimão. I advise you to take the bus to make this trip, it will be faster and easier.

The Council of Europe recognized the Portimão Museum as the best in 2010 and awarded it an honorary prize.The museum’s exhibition will tell the development of the city, industry, historical moments and cultural traditions. The museum is divided into three rooms. The first room of the museum tells the story of the birth of Portimão. Visitors can discover the advantages of the city’s geographical location and the natural resources of the region, from prehistoric times to the present day.Visitors have the opportunity to follow the whole process of canned food production, from the supply of fish to the promotion of the products in the market. The third room of the museum is located in an old underground reservoir, where rainwater was collected and sent to steam boilers. In this room, visitors can watch a film about the underground flora and fauna of the city, located on the right bank of the Arad River.

Church of the Virgin Mary

There are also four Crucifixes, made of ivory and ebony, and a Manueline baptismal cup (16th century), decorated with floral elements and installed on a cornice on the wall. College of Jesuits

College of Jesuits PortimaoThe Jesuit College is located on the corner of Rua do Comercio, in the center of Portimão. This magnificent building was commissioned by the nobleman Diego Gonçalves in the 17th and 18th centuries. Inside the church is the marble tomb of Diego Gonçalves. It should be noted that this church is considered the largest in the Algarve.The first stone was laid in October 1660, and the college was inaugurated in March 1707. The façade of the building is divided into three parts. The middle part, the highest, serves as the entrance to the church. The entrance is decorated with a vaulted pediment. During the Lisbon earthquake of 1755, the church was damaged, but reconstruction work was quickly carried out. The entrance door on the right side of the façade is in Manueline style (16th century). The church has a nave inside. The main altar, as well as the images on the side altar, are made of wood and richly decorated with gold.The side annexes of the college now house organizations such as the administration of the city of Portimão, the care center for the elderly and the local scouts.
